It also has a corroborating report narrated from ʿAmr, from al-Muṭṭalib, as a Prophetic report, with the wording: “I have not left anything that Allah commanded you to do without commanding you to do it, nor have I left anything that He forbade you without forbidding you from it.” It was recorded by al-Shāfiʿī, as cited in Badāʾiʿ al-Minan, no. 7, and by Ibn Khuzaymah in Ḥadīth ʿAlī ibn Ḥujr (vol. 3, no. 100). This is a good mursal chain of transmission. ʿAmr is Ibn Abī ʿAmr, and al-Muṭṭalib is Ibn ʿAbd Allāh.
1804 — “There are three whom the angels do not approach: a person in a state of major ritual impurity, an intoxicated person, and one anointed with khalūq, a saffron-based perfume.”
Al-Bazzār recorded it (p. 164—Zawāʾid Ibn Ḥajar): al-ʿAbbās ibn Abī Ṭālib narrated to us; Abū Salamah narrated to us; Abān narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Ibn Buraydah, from Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿmur, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said it. He added: “Others besides al-ʿAbbās have narrated it as a mursal report, and it is not known to be narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās except by this route.”
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission, as al-Mundhirī stated in al-Targhīb (1/91). Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs, apart from this al-ʿAbbās—namely, al-ʿAbbās ibn Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayqān al-Baghdādī, Abū Muḥammad ibn Abī Ṭālib, the brother of Yaḥyā. He was a truthful narrator and died in 258 AH. Al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (5/72): “Al-Bazzār recorded it, and its narrators are narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ collections, except al-ʿAbbās ibn Abī Ṭālib, who is trustworthy.”
I say: Al-Bukhārī also recorded it in al-Tārīkh (3/1/74), through Abū ʿAwānah, from Qatādah, with this chain. Thus, al-Bazzār’s statement, “It is not narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās except by this route,” was based only on the extent of his knowledge. “Above every person of knowledge is one more knowing.”
