- As for the hadith of Saʿīd ibn Rāshid, it is narrated by ʿAmr ibn Mujammaʿ: Yūnus ibn Khabbāb narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Rāshid—or, in another version, Ibn Sāʾib—from him. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (5537), and by al-Bazzār with similar wording, as cited in al-Majmaʿ (8/11). He said: “It contains ʿAmr ibn Mujammaʿ, who is weak.”
I say: Regarding Yūnus ibn Khabbāb, al-Bukhārī said: “His hadith is rejected.”
- “Reflect upon the blessings of Allah, but do not reflect upon Allah, exalted is He.”
It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsaṭ (6456), al-Lālakāʾī in al-Sunnah (1/119/1–2), and al-Bayhaqī in al-Shuʿab (1/75—Hind), from ʿAlī ibn Thābit, from al-Wāziʿ ibn Nāfiʿ, from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from his father, attributed to the Prophet.
I say: This is a very weak chain of transmission, its flaw being this al-Wāziʿ. Al-Bukhārī said: “His hadith is rejected.” Al-Nasāʾī and others declared him abandoned. Indeed, al-Ḥākim and others said: “He narrated fabricated hadiths.” Therefore, al-Bayhaqī said immediately afterward: “This chain of transmission is questionable.”
Abū al-Shaykh, al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsaṭ, and Ibn ʿAdī also recorded it through his route, as cited in al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr and al-Manāwī’s commentary on it. It was likewise deemed defective on this basis in al-Majmaʿ (1/81). It has a supporting narration from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording, adding: “For you will never comprehend Him except through belief.” Ibn ʿAsākir recorded it in the session (139) of al-Amālī (50/1), through the route of
