1780 — “A wind will come before the Hour, taking the souls of every believer.”
Ahmad recorded it (3/420): ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us; he said: Ma‘mar informed us, from Ayyub, from Nafi‘, from ‘Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi‘ah, who said: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say this.
Al-Hakim also recorded it (4/489) through the route of al-Dabari: ‘Abd al-Razzaq informed us ... He said: “Authentic according to the standards of al-Bukhari and Muslim.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him, and they were correct.
It has supporting reports from the hadith of al-Nawwas ibn Sam‘an, at the end of his lengthy hadith concerning the Dajjal (Antichrist) and the descent of Jesus, peace be upon him, with the wording: “While they are in that state, Allah will send a pleasant wind, which will take them beneath their armpits and take the soul of every believer and every Muslim ...” Muslim recorded it (8/197–198), as did al-Tirmidhi (2/38–39), who declared it authentic; Ibn Majah, no. 4075; and Ahmad (4/181–182).
It is also reported from Hudhayfah ibn Usayd al-Ghifari by al-Hakim (3/594) and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir (3028 and 7037). It is likewise reported from Ibn ‘Amr, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: “Then Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Syria, and no one will remain whose heart contains even the weight of an atom of faith except that it will take his soul—even if one of them were in the depths of a mountain, it would enter upon him.” Ahmad recorded it (2/166) from him with an authentic chain of transmission.
