This hadith has also been related from Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn Asim, Anas ibn Malik, Abu Hurayrah, Abu Qatadah, and Ubayy ibn Ka'b.

As for the hadith of Abdullah ibn Zayd, it was recorded by al-Bukhari (3/152 and 4/412), Muslim (3/108–109), and Ahmad (4/42), with some portions placed before or after others. Its wording is: “Were it not for the migration, I would have been one of the Ansar. If the people were to take one valley or mountain pass, I would take the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar. The Ansar are the inner garment, and the people are the outer garment. After me, you will encounter preferential treatment, so remain patient until you meet me at the Basin.”

The hadith of Anas was recorded by al-Bukhari (3/4, 153, and 154), Muslim (3/106 and 107), and Ahmad (3/169, 172, 188, 246, 249, 275, and 280) through several chains from him. Neither of the two Sahih collections contains anything but the middle sentence of the wording given in the heading. It is, however, found in Ahmad’s version, whose chain in the first complete recension is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria.

The hadith of Abu Hurayrah was recorded by al-Bukhari (3/5 and 4/412), Ibn Hibban (2292), and Ahmad (2/410, 414, 419, 469, and 501) through several chains from him. Al-Bukhari and Ibn Hibban do not include its first sentence, unlike Ahmad in one narration. Its chain is likewise authentic according to Muslim’s criteria.

The hadith of Abu Qatadah was recorded in full by Ahmad (5/307) from him, as was done by al-Hakim (4/79), who said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him, and it is as they said. Al-Haythami said in al-Majma' (10/35): “It was recorded by Ahmad, and its narrators are those of the authentic collections, apart from Yahya ibn al-Nadr al-Ansari, who is trustworthy.”

The hadith of Ubayy ibn Ka'b was recorded by al-Tirmidhi (no. 3895) and Ahmad (5/137 and
