“This is a good chain of transmission: Yaʿqūb is disputed, while the rest are trustworthy.” This is what he said, though its flaw is evident. Nevertheless, the hadith is authentic, for it is corroborated by the prophetic report of Buraydah: “Adhere to a moderate course, for whoever overburdens himself in this religion will be overcome by it.” Aḥmad and others narrated it, and I have traced its sources in Ẓilāl al-Jannah fī Takhrīj al-Sunnah by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim (95–97). It is also corroborated by the prophetic report of ʿĀʾishah: “Undertake of deeds only what you are able to sustain, for Allah does not grow weary until you grow weary.” Al-Bukhārī and Muslim narrated it, as did others. It has been documented in Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd (1238), and a corroborating report for it has preceded at no. 1709.

Al-Tirmidhī (2/308) and al-Ṭabarānī (2680) narrated it from Zayd ibn al-Ḥasan al-Anmāṭī, from Jaʿfar, from his father, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, during his pilgrimage, on the Day of ʿArafah, delivering a sermon while upon his she-camel al-Qaṣwāʾ. I heard him say”—then he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: “This is a good, singular hadith through this route. Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān and more than one scholar narrated from Zayd ibn al-Ḥasan.”
I say: Abū Ḥātim said, “His hadith is rejected.” Ibn Ḥibbān included him among the trustworthy narrators. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said:
