The hadith also has many corroborating reports. Some of them have preceded, from the hadiths of ʿĀʾishah and Umm Salamah in the first volume, nos. 83 and 84, together with commentary appropriate to the subject. Refer to it if you wish.
- “Indeed, there are only four: that you do not associate anything with Allah, do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, do not commit adultery, and do not steal.”
Aḥmad (4/339) and al-Ṭabarānī (6316–6317) narrated it through Manṣūr, from Hilāl ibn Yisāf, from Salamah ibn Qays al-Ashjaʿī, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said during the Farewell Pilgrimage—then he mentioned the hadith. He said: “Since I heard them from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, I have never been more vigilant in observing them.”
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic. Al-Haythamī was remiss when he said (1/104): “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Kabīr, and its narrators are trustworthy.”
- “O people, adhere to moderation, adhere to moderation; for Allah does not weary until you weary.”
Ibn Mājah (4241), Abū Yaʿlā (2/497), and Ibn Ḥibbān (651) narrated it through Yaʿqūb ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Qummī, who said: ʿĪsā ibn Jāriyah narrated to us from Jābir, who said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by a man standing in prayer upon a rock. He then went to an area of Mecca and remained there for some time. When he returned, he found the man still praying in the same state. He then clasped his hands and said”—then he mentioned the hadith.
I say: This chain of transmission is potentially capable of being graded good. Its narrators are regarded as reliable, though there is disagreement concerning ʿĪsā ibn Jāriyah. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: “There is some weakness in him.” Al-Būṣīrī said in al-Zawāʾid (286/1):
