“Authentic according to Muslim’s criteria.” Al-Dhahabi agreed with him.
This is a grave error on the part of both of them, for Muslim did not include anything from either Muhammad ibn Khaytham or Yazid ibn Muhammad ibn Khaytham; indeed, none of the other Six did either, apart from al-Nasaʾi in the aforementioned work, al-Khasaʾis. Both are of unknown status: only al-Qurazi narrated from the former, and only Ibn Ishaq from the latter. Al-Haythami said (9/136): “Ahmad, al-Tabarani, and al-Bazzar narrated it in abridged form. All the narrators are trustworthy, except that the Successor did not hear from Ammar.”
However, the hadith has corroborating reports from Suhayb, Jabir ibn Samurah, and Ali, with chains containing weakness—except for Ali’s hadith, whose chain is good, as al-Haythami stated. He has cited all of them; consult them if you wish (9/136–137).
“Clusters of date palms” means a group of date palms. It has no corresponding singular form, and its plural is ṣīrān. “Dusty ground” here means the fine dust on the surface of the earth.
1744 — “Shall I not tell you something which, whenever distress or one of the worldly afflictions befalls any of you, and he supplicates with it, Allah relieves him of it?” They said, “Indeed.” He said: “The supplication of Jonah: ‘There is no god worthy of worship but You. Glory be to You! Indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.’”
Al-Hakim narrated it (1/505) through Ibn Abi al-Dunya, who narrated it in al-Faraj baʿd al-Shiddah (p. 10): Ubayd ibn Muhammad narrated to me; Muhammad ibn Muhajir al-Qurashi narrated to us; Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Saʿd narrated to me from his father, from his grandfather, who said: “We were sitting with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he said...” He then mentioned it.
