Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

also among al-Bukhari’s narrators—who said: “Ubayd Allah ibn Hawdhah narrated to us—and I saw him confined to his cradle by old age—he said: Jarmaz narrated to me,” and then mentioned it. Al-Hafiz said: “On this basis, Ubayd Allah may initially have heard it from him through an intermediary, and then later heard it directly from him.”

Al-Tabarani also recorded it (2180) through Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Ar'arah: Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith narrated to us; Ubayd Allah ibn Hawdhah narrated to us from Jarmaz, with the same wording. Thus, he omitted the intermediary between them. It is perhaps more likely that the intermediary should be retained, for al-Tabarani recorded it (2182) through another route, from al-Hasan ibn Habib ibn Nudbah, from Ubayd Allah ibn Hawdhah al-Quray'i, from an unnamed teacher, from Jarmaz, with similar wording. The matter therefore rests on al-Baghawi’s and Ibn al-Sakan’s definitive identification of that teacher as Abu Tamimah al-Hujaymi. And Allah knows best. The hadith also has some corroborating reports in Zilal al-Jannah (1014); whoever wishes may consult them.

1730 — “I advise you to be mindful of Allah and to proclaim ‘Allahu akbar’ (Allah is Most Great) at every ascent.”

Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in al-Musannaf (12/35/2), and from him Ibn Majah (2771), al-Tirmidhi (2/255), and Ahmad (2/325, 331, 443, and 476). It was likewise recorded by Ibn Khuzaymah in his Sahih (1/256/2), al-Muhamili in al-Du'a (folio 32/1), Ibn al-Sunni in Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah (514), al-Hakim (1/445–446 and 2/98), and al-Bayhaqi in al-Zuhd (folio 107/2), through several routes from Usamah ibn Zayd, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: “A man came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, intending to travel, and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, advise me.’” He then said the above.

Al-Tirmidhi’s wording is: “You must be mindful of Allah...” He, al-Hakim, Ahmad, and others added: “When he departed, he said: ‘O Allah, fold up the earth for him and make the journey easy for him.’” Al-Tirmidhi said:
