Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

Abū Nuʿaym then also recorded it through Ḥammād ibn Salamah: from Ḥabīb, from al-Ḥasan; and from Ḥumayd, from Muwarriq al-ʿIjlī—that when Salmān was nearing death, he wept, and so forth. In this version, they said: “When he died, they looked in his house,” and he mentioned it similarly, except that he said: “It was valued at around twenty dirhams.” Al-Ṭabarānī also recorded it (6160) through Ḥammād ibn Salamah, from ʿAlī ibn Zayd, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib; and from Ḥumayd, from Muwarriq al-ʿIjlī, to the same effect.

I say: Muwarriq al-ʿIjlī thus corroborated al-Ḥasan. He was a trustworthy Successor, and this report does not present the difficulty found in Manṣūr’s narration from al-Ḥasan. It then occurred to me that perhaps the words, “We looked,” are a textual corruption, and that the correct wording is, “They looked,” as in this narration. Allah knows best.

I then found it in al-Zuhd by Ibn al-Mubārak (966), through the narration of Yūnus from al-Ḥasan, who said: He mentioned it, but without the additional wording. It is then narrated there (967) through Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdī, who said: Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl narrated to us from Muwarriq al-ʿIjlī, from one of his companions who had met Salmān, who said: “We visited Salmān during the illness from which he died, and he wept…” and so forth, but without the valuation found in the additional wording. These two narrations are among al-Ḥusayn al-Marwazī’s additions to Ibn al-Mubārak’s work.

Abū Nuʿaym, as well as Ibn Saʿd (4/91), then recorded it through ʿAlī ibn Zayd, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, in mursal form, to the same effect. It is found in al-Ṭabarānī as mentioned above.

The second: from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥubulī, from ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, that when death approached Salmān the Good, they perceived some distress in him… The hadith is similar. Ibn Ḥibbān recorded it (2480), as did Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilyah (1/197).

I say: Its chain of transmission is good. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections, apart from ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Allāh. He is Ibn Luḥayy, Abū al-Yamān al-Hawzanī al-Ḥimṣī. Ibn Ḥibbān included him among the trustworthy Successors in Thiqat al-Tabiʿīn (1/187), and a number of people narrated from him. As for al-Dhahabī’s statement in al-Mīzān:
