Likewise, Abū Yaʿlā recorded it in his Musnad (folio 232/1), and Abū Nuʿaym in Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ (1/88), through another route from Ṣāliḥ ibn Mūsā with the same wording. Al-Ṭabarānī also transmitted it in al-Awsat, as cited in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (9/148), where he remarked:
“Among its transmitters is Ṣāliḥ ibn Mūsā, and he is matrūk (abandoned).”
I (al-Albānī) say: He was not the sole narrator of this report. It was also related by Isḥāq ibn Yaḥyā ibn Ṭalḥah from his uncle Mūsā ibn Ṭalḥah, who said:
“While ʿĀʾishah bint Ṭalḥah was saying to her mother, Umm Kulthūm bint Abī Bakr, ‘My father is better than yours,’ ʿĀʾishah the Mother of the Believers said, ‘Shall I arbitrate between you two? Abū Bakr once entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and he said, “O Abū Bakr, you are ʿAtīq Allāh from the Fire.” From that day he was called al-ʿAtīq. Then Ṭalḥah entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and he said, “As for you, O Ṭalḥah, you are among those who have fulfilled their pledge.”’ ”
Al-Ḥākim recorded it (2/415–416) and declared: “Its chain is sound.”
Al-Dhahabī commented, “Rather, Isḥāq is matrūk (abandoned); so declared Aḥmad.”
I (al-Albānī) add: In addition to his severe weakness, he was inconsistent in his chain. On one occasion he narrated it as above, while on another he reported:
Mūsā ibn Ṭalḥah said: “I visited Muʿāwiyah, and he said, ‘Shall I give you glad tidings?’ I replied, ‘Indeed.’ He said, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: “Ṭalḥah is among those who have fulfilled their pledge.”’ ”
Ibn Saʿd recorded this version (3/1/155–156), and al-Tirmidhī (2/219, 302) said:
“This ḥadīth is gharīb (singular); we do not know it except through this route, and it has only been transmitted by Mūsā ibn Ṭalḥah from his father.”
