al-Tārīkh (13/48), where he cited al-Dāraqutnī’s declaration that he was weak. Al-Barqānī said: “Very weak.” In al-Lisān, he also mentioned another hadith in whose chain of transmission he had erred.
1652 — “Indeed, Allah marvels at prayer performed in congregation.”
Al-Khaṭīb recorded it in al-Mūḍiḥ (2/2/2) through the route of Aḥmad—and it is found in al-Musnad (2/50): Yūnus ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Marthad—that is, Ibn ʿĀmir al-Hanāʾī—narrated to us; Abū ʿAmr al-Nadbī told me; he said: ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb told me, attributing it to the Prophet. Al-Khaṭīb said: “Abū ʿAmr is Bishr ibn Ḥarb.”
I say: He is truthful, though he has some weakness, as al-Ḥāfiẓ stated. For this reason, al-Mundhirī graded this hadith good in al-Targhīb (1/150), and al-Haythamī followed him (2/39). It has a very weak corroborating report, which Ibn ʿAdī recorded (75/1) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Qirāṭ: Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī narrated to us from Abū Hārūn, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb and Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, attributing it to the Prophet with the same wording. He said: “Ḥammād ibn Qirāṭ confused its chain of transmission.” He then cited it through the route of Abū Ibrāhīm al-Tarjumānī: Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī narrated to us from Abū Hārūn, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet, in similar wording. He said: “This is more plausible: what al-Tarjumānī reported from Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī, rather than Ḥammād ibn Qirāṭ’s narration from Ṣāliḥ. Most of what Ḥammād narrates is questionable.”
I say: Its chain revolves around Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī, who is weak, from Abū Hārūn al-ʿAbdī, who is abandoned. Thus, the main reliance is upon the first route. And Allah knows best.
1653 — “Indeed, Allah marvels at a servant when he says: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but You. I have indeed wronged myself, so forgive me my sins; surely none forgives sins except You.’ He says: ‘My servant knows that he has a Lord who forgives and punishes.’”
