Ibn Ḥibbān recorded it (1606), as did al-Nasāʾī in al-Siyar (1/38/1), and al-Ḍiyāʾ as well. Ḥumayd also narrated it from Anas in al-Ḍiyāʾ’s collection. It has also been reported with the wording: “...by men who are not among its adherents.” Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it, and its chain includes ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ziyād ibn Anʿum, who is weak, as al-Haythamī stated. In my view, this wording is rejected, because it contradicts the wordings transmitted by the trustworthy narrators. And Allah knows best.
1650 — “Allah has not sent down—or created—any disease without sending down—or creating—a remedy for it: whoever knows it knows it, and whoever does not know it does not know it, except for al-sām.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is al-sām?” He replied, “Death.”
Al-Ḥākim recorded it (4/401) through the route of Shabīb ibn Shaybah: ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ narrated to us; Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī narrated to us, attributing it to the Prophet. Al-Ḥākim and al-Dhahabī made no comment on it, but its chain of transmission is weak on account of this Shabīb. Al-Taqrīb states: “He is truthful, but makes errors in hadith.” However, it has corroborating reports from the hadith of Usāmah ibn Shurayk, with the wording: “Seek treatment, for Allah ...”; and from the hadith of Ibn Masʿūd, with the wording: “Allah has not sent down any disease ...” I have cited both of them in Ghāyat al-Marām (292); thus, the hadith is authentic in light of its corroborating reports.
Ibn Masʿūd’s hadith has also been reported in a similar form with the wording: “Indeed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has not sent down any disease without sending down along with it a remedy, which some of you know and others do not know.” Aḥmad recorded it (1/446): ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us; ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib informed me, who said:
