ʿUrwah, from her. Ibn Ḥibbān and Ibn ʿAdī mentioned that ʿAbd al-Wāḥid alone narrated it. Al-Bukhārī said: “His hadith is rejected.” However, al-Ṭabarānī recorded it through Yaʿqūb ibn Mujāhid, from ʿUrwah, and said: “No one narrated it from ʿUrwah except Yaʿqūb and ʿAbd al-Wāḥid.”

Another is from Abū Umāmah. Al-Ṭabarānī and al-Bayhaqī recorded it in al-Zuhd with a weak chain of transmission.
-
Another is from ʿAlī, recorded by al-Ismāʿīlī in Musnad ʿAlī.
-
Another is from Ibn ʿAbbās. Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it. The chains of both reports are weak.
-
Another is from Anas. Abū Yaʿlā, al-Bazzār, and al-Ṭabarānī recorded it. Its chain also contains weakness.
-
Another is from Ḥudhayfah. Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in abridged form. Its chain is good and singular.
-
Another is from Muʿādh ibn Jabal. Ibn Mājah and Abū Nuʿaym recorded it in al-Ḥilyah in abridged form, and its chain is likewise weak.
-
Another is from Wahb ibn Munabbih, as a report attributed to a Successor. Aḥmad recorded it in al-Zuhd, as did Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilyah. This rebuts Ibn Ḥibbān’s statement, made after recording the hadith of Abū Hurayrah: “Only two routes are known for this hadith—that is, apart from the hadith under discussion: Hishām al-Kinānī from Anas, and ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Maymūn from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah; neither is authentic.”
All of the foregoing is the hadith master’s discussion. He treated the matter at length, and rightly so, for a hadith included by Imam al-Bukhārī in the Authentic Musnad cannot easily be impugned merely because of weakness in its chain of transmission, since it may have corroborating reports that support and strengthen it. Is this hadith like that? The hadith master cited these eight corroborating reports and categorically affirmed that their combined weight shows that it has a basis. Since one of the conditions for corroborating reports is that their weakness must not be severe—otherwise a hadith cannot be strengthened by them, as the scholars have established in the science of hadith terminology—and since it is also necessary that their corroboration be complete,
