Al-Nasāʾī recorded it in Kind Treatment of Women (2/89/2): Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm informed me; Muʿādh ibn Hishām informed us; my father narrated to me from Qatādah, from Anas, attributed to the Prophet. Through this same chain, Qatādah narrated from al-Ḥasan with similar wording.
I say: The narrators in both chains are trustworthy, but the latter is mursal, whereas the former has a continuous chain to the Prophet and is therefore authentic, provided that Qatādah heard it from Anas, for he has been noted for a degree of concealment in transmission. And Allah knows best. Al-Ḍiyāʾ also recorded it through the first route in al-Mukhtārah (185/2), then mentioned the other mursal narration and said: “Al-Dāraquṭnī said: The sound version from Hishām, from Qatādah, is from al-Ḥasan as a mursal report.”
I say: Ibn Ḥibbān also recorded it in his Ṣaḥīḥ (1562), as did Ibn ʿAdī in al-Kāmil (13/1), through Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm—namely, Ibn Rāhawayh. He then said: “This hadith is uniquely narrated by Isḥāq ibn Rāhawayh.”
I say: He was a leading imam, trustworthy, and a master hadith memorizer, so his sole narration does not impair it. The hadith is further supported by the Prophet’s saying, peace and blessings be upon him: “Every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you will be questioned about his flock ...” This hadith has been referenced in Ghāyat al-Marām fī Takhrīj al-Ḥalāl wa-l-Ḥarām (268).
ʿAbd al-Razzāq recorded in al-Muṣannaf (20650), and al-Ṭabarānī narrated from him in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (8855), from Qatādah, that Ibn Masʿūd said: “Allah, Most High, will question everyone responsible for a charge concerning what was entrusted to him: did he uphold Allah’s command among them, or neglect it? A man will even be questioned about his household.” It is attributed to the Companion and interrupted, because Qatādah did not hear from Ibn Masʿūd, as al-Haythamī stated in al-Majmaʿ (7/208).
