1630 — “Allah created Adam from a handful He took from all the earth. Thus the children of Adam came forth according to the earth: among them are the red, the white, the black, and those in between; the smooth and the rugged; the wicked and the good.”
Ibn Saʿd narrated it in The Classes (1/5–6): Hūdhah ibn Khalīfah informed us; ʿAwf informed us, from Qasāmah, who said: I heard Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī attribute it to the Prophet.
I say: This is an authentic chain; its narrators are those of Muslim, except for Hūdhah, who is trustworthy. Al-Wāḥidī also narrated it from him in The Intermediate Exegesis (1/14/1–2), as did Ibn ʿAsākir (2/307/2), through various routes from him. Likewise, Abū al-Faraj al-Thaqafī narrated it in The Benefits (97/1) and declared it authentic, as did Ibn Ḥibbān (2083 and 2084), Aḥmad (4/406), and others, such as Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who said: “Good and authentic.”
I say: Hūdhah ibn Khalīfah was corroborated. Al-Ṭabarī also transmitted it in The Exegesis (1/481/645), as did al-Bayhaqī in The Names and Attributes (327 and 385), Ibn Khuzaymah in Oneness of God (44), and Abū Nuʿaym in The Adornment (3/104 and 8/135), through various routes from ʿAwf al-Aʿrābī, with this wording.
1631 — “The believer strives with his sword and his tongue. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, what you hurl at them is like a shower of arrows.”
Aḥmad recorded it (6/387): ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us; he said: Maʿmar informed us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik, from his father, who said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: “Allah the Exalted has revealed concerning poetry what He has revealed.” He then mentioned it. This is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
