Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

It further appears to me that, although we do not all remember that divine covenant—and the scholars have explained the reason for this—the innate disposition upon which Allah created mankind, which in fact bears witness that Allah alone is the Lord, without partner, is but an effect of that covenant. It is as though al-Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, alluded to this when he narrated from al-Aswad ibn Sari', attributing it to the Prophet: “Indeed, no soul is born except that it is born upon the innate disposition ...” the hadith. Al-Hasan then said: “Allah has indeed said this in His Book: ‘And when your Lord ...’ the verse.” Ibn Jarir recorded it (15353).

This is further supported by the fact that al-Hasan was among those who affirmed the taking of the covenant reported in the hadiths, as previously indicated. Accordingly, it is not valid to claim that al-Hasan al-Basri was among the later scholars who held that the testimony mentioned in the verse means only that Allah created them with an innate disposition toward tawhid, as Ibn Kathir did. And Allah knows best.

1624 — “Allah has bestowed His favor upon you at this gathering of yours: He has forgiven your wrongdoers for the sake of your righteous ones, and He has given your righteous ones what they asked for. Depart in the name of Allah.”

Ibn Majah recorded it (3024) from Abu Salamah al-Himsi, from Bilal ibn Rabah, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him on the morning at Muzdalifah: “Bilal, quiet the people—or have the people listen attentively.” Then he said the above.

Al-Busiri said in al-Zawa'id (207/2, Maktabah facsimile edition): “This chain of transmission is weak. The name of this Abu Salamah is unknown, and he is an unknown narrator.”

I say: Yet the hadith is authentic in my view, for it has supporting narrations from Anas ibn Malik, Ubadah ibn al-Samit, and Abbas ibn Mirdas. As for the hadith of Anas, Salih al-Murri narrates it from Yazid al-Raqashi, from Anas, attributing it to the Prophet, in a more complete version.
