and the narrator from him, Jundab ibn ‘Abd Allah al-‘Adwani, was also declared trustworthy by al-‘Ijli, no. 182. Thus, the chain’s status remains insufficiently established.
However, Ibn ‘Asakir recorded it (12/8/1) through Mu‘adh ibn Asad, the scribe of Ibn al-Mubarak, who said: Ibn al-Mubarak informed us, from Ibn Lahi‘ah, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Ma‘afiri, from Sufyan ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Thaqafi, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr, with the same report.
I say: This is a sound chain of transmission. All its narrators are trustworthy and among the narrators of the two Sahihs, apart from Ibn Lahi‘ah. He is trustworthy and sound in his hadith when one of the distinguished narrators named ‘Abd Allah narrates from him, and among them is ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak. This hadith is among what he narrated from him, as you can see. It is apparent that Ibn Lahi‘ah had two chains of transmission for it, and Ibn al-Mubarak narrated it from him, once through this chain and once through the other. Through this, the hadith is authentic, and all praise is due to Allah.
Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Ma‘afiri was named ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Hubuli al-Misri.
1620 — “Indeed, Allah has withheld repentance from every adherent of innovation.”
It was recorded by Abu al-Shaykh in History of Isfahan (p. 259), al-Tabarani in al-Awsat (no. 4360), Abu Bakr al-Mulhami in Two Sessions from al-Amali (fols. 148/1–2), al-Harawi in Condemnation of Speculative Theology (6/101/1), al-Bayhaqi in Branches of Faith (2/380/2), and Yusuf ibn ‘Abd al-Hadi in Gathering the Armies and Forces against Ibn ‘Asakir (fol. 33/1), through several routes from Harun ibn Musa, who said: Abu Damrah related to us, from Humayd, from Anas, in a report attributed to the Prophet.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and among the narrators of the two Sahihs, apart from Harun ibn Musa al-Farawi. Al-Nasa’i said of him—and al-Hafiz followed him in al-Taqrib—“There is no objection to him.” Al-Haythami said in Majma‘ al-Zawa’id (10/189): “Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, apart from Harun ibn Musa al-Farawi, who is trustworthy.”
