and by al-Hakim (2/346–347, 570, and 571) and Ahmad (2/332 and 384), through Muhammad ibn ‘Amr, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, in a narration attributed to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with the same wording. Al-Tirmidhi said: “A good hadith.” Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to Muslim’s conditions,” and al-Dhahabi concurred. Muslim also recorded it (7/98), in abridged form, through Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salamah and Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah, with the same report.
1618 — “Whoever lies about me will have a house built for him in Hell.”
Ahmad recorded it (2/22, 103, and 144) from Abu Bakr ibn Salim, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
1619 — “Blessed are the strangers.” It was asked, “Who are the strangers, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “A few righteous people among many wicked people; those who disobey them are more numerous than those who obey them.”
Ibn al-Mubarak narrated it in al-Zuhd (190/2 from al-Kawakib 575—and no. 775 in the printed edition): Ibn Lahi‘ah informed us; al-Harith ibn Yazid ibn Jundab ibn ‘Abd Allah al-‘Adwani related to me that he heard Sufyan ibn ‘Awf al-Qari say: “I heard ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘As say: One day, while we were with him, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said”—then he cited it. Ahmad likewise recorded it (2/177 and 222) through two other routes from Ibn Lahi‘ah, with the same report.
I say: The narrators of this chain are trustworthy, except that no one besides Ibn Hibban (3/96) and al-‘Ijli, no. 483, declared Sufyan ibn ‘Awf al-Qari trustworthy. Al-‘Ijli said: “An Egyptian, a trustworthy Successor.”
