The first was Muhammad ibn Ja‘far al-Mada’ini: Warqa’ informed us, from al-A‘mash, with the same chain. It was recorded by al-Tabarani (10392), al-Bazzar in his Musnad (no. 1999), and Ibn Hibban in Rawdat al-‘Uqala’ (p. 59).
I say: This is a good chain of transmission, as I explained in al-Rawd al-Nadir under hadith (1075).
The second was ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Sharik, from his father, from al-A‘mash, with the same chain. Al-Bazzar also recorded it. Both ‘Abd al-Rahman and his father are weak on account of their retention, so they may be cited as corroborative support. The first part of the hadith has a supporting report from Anas and Abu Hurayrah, both of which are documented in al-Rawd al-Nadir (2/457).
I say: Part of spreading the greeting of peace is to greet one who is praying, reciting the Quran, eating, and others; a fuller discussion of this belongs elsewhere.

An authentic hadith, among that which Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, preserved for us. It has been narrated from him through several routes:
The first: from al-A‘mash, from Abu Sufyan, from him. It was recorded by Muslim (8/138), al-Tirmidhi (3/127), Ahmad (3/313), and Abu Ya‘la in his Musnad (2/609). Al-Tirmidhi said:
