Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

in Musnad al-Tayalisi (1137), and al-Bayhaqi likewise recorded it from him in Shuʿab al-Iman (2/153/1–2), with similar wording. All the other narrators are trustworthy, except Farqad al-Sabakhi, who is weak.

It has also been narrated from him through other routes. Ahmad (5/259) said: Sayyar ibn Hatim narrated to us: Jaʿfar narrated to us, saying: “One day I went to Farqad and found him alone. I said, ‘O son of Umm Farqad, today I shall certainly ask you about this hadith. Tell me: your statement concerning people being swallowed by the earth and pelted with stones—is this something you say yourself, or do you relate it from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?’ He replied, ‘No; rather, I relate it from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.’

“I asked, ‘And who narrated it to you?’ He said, ‘ʿAsim ibn ʿUmar al-Bajali narrated to me from Abu Umamah, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Qatadah narrated it to me from Saʿid ibn al-Musayyib, and Ibrahim al-Nakhaʿi narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“‘A group from my ummah will spend the night amid food, drink, diversion, and play, then awake as monkeys and swine. A wind will be sent against some of their communities and sweep them away, just as it swept away those before them, because they deemed wine lawful, beat frame drums, and kept singing-girls.’”

Sadaqah ibn Musa corroborated him, reporting from Farqad al-Sabakhi: “Abu Munib al-Shami narrated to us from Abu ʿAtaʾ, from ʿUbadah ibn al-Samit, from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Shahr ibn Hawshab narrated to me from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm, from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. ʿAsim ibn ʿAmr al-Bajali narrated to me from Abu Umamah, from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Saʿid ibn al-Musayyib narrated to me—or it was narrated from him—from Ibn ʿAbbas, from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said:

“‘By Him in whose hand is my soul, people from my ummah will spend the night in extravagance, insolent arrogance, play, and diversion, then awake as monkeys and swine because they deem unlawful acts lawful, keep singing-girls, drink wine, consume ribā, and wear silk.’”

ʿAbdullah ibn Ahmad recorded it in Zawaʾid al-Musnad (5/329).

I say: Al-Haythami mentioned this narration of ʿAbdullah, as well as the one before it, in al-Majmaʿ (5/75), and said:
