Al-Sarrī ibn Ismāʿīl al-Kūfī also corroborated him, reporting that al-Shaʿbī related it to him. Aḥmad narrated it (4/273). However, this al-Sarrī is abandoned. In sum, the hadith is good by virtue of the first two chains taken together.
1594 — “Your welfare after I am gone is one of my concerns, and none but the patient will care for you.”
Al-Ḥākim narrated it (3/312) through Bakr ibn Muḍar, who said: Ṣakhr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥarmalah narrated to us from Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who related: “I entered upon ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, and she said to me: ‘The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say to me’”—and he mentioned the foregoing—“‘then she said: May Allah grant your father a drink from Salsabil in Paradise.’ ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf had arranged for them to receive money from a sale amounting to forty thousand.” He said: “Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.” Al-Dhahabī criticized this, saying: “I say: Ṣakhr is truthful, but neither of them narrated from him.”
I say: Al-ʿIjlī and Ibn Ḥibbān considered him reliable, while al-Nasāʾī said: “Acceptable.” No one other than Bakr ibn Muḍar narrated from him; thus, his hadith are good. Allah knows best. The hadith also has a supporting narration, which al-Ḥākim related (3/310–311) through Umm Bakr bint al-Miswar: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf sold a piece of land for forty thousand dinars … and sent ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, some of that money. She asked: “Who sent this money?” I said: “ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf.” She said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘None but the patient will show tenderness toward you after I am gone.’ May Allah grant Ibn ʿAwf a drink from Salsabil in Paradise.” He said:
