Al-Ḥākim recorded it (4/449) and said: “Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.” Al-Dhahabī agreed with him.
I say: Abū Asmāʾ, whose name was ʿAmr ibn Marthad, was not used as an authority by al-Bukhārī. Maʿmar reported it differently in its chain, saying: “Ayyūb informed me, from Abū Qilābah, from Abū al-Ashʿath al-Ṣanʿānī, from Abū Asmāʾ al-Raḥabī, from Shaddād ibn Aws,” attributing it to the Prophet. Ibn Ḥibbān (1564) and Aḥmad (4/123) recorded it. Thus, he made it a report of Shaddād and inserted Abū al-Ashʿath al-Ṣanʿānī between him and Abū Qilābah. If Maʿmar preserved it correctly, then Abū Qilābah has two chains of transmission for this hadith: one from Abū Asmāʾ, from Thawbān; and the other from Abū al-Ashʿath, from Abū Asmāʾ, from Shaddād. And Allah knows best.
-
As for the hadith of Shaddād, it has preceded in the one before it.
-
As for the hadith of ʿAlī, Jābir narrates it from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Nujayy, from him. This is a weak chain, as I have explained in my source analysis of Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim’s al-Sunnah (100).

“Indeed, the person with the finest recitation among people is the one whom, when he recites, you see fears Allah.”
Abū Nuʿaym recorded it in Akhbār Aṣbahān (Reports of Isfahan) (2/58), from Yaḥyā ibn ʿUthmān ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Miṣrī: My father narrated to us; Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us, from Yazīd ibn Yazīd, from Ibn Shihāb, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, attributing it to the Prophet.
I say: Through the same chain, al-Ṭabarānī also recorded it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (The Great Compendium) (3/101/1), but he said: from Ibn Lahīʿah, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Ṭāwūs, from Ibn ʿAbbās, attributing it to the Prophet, except that he said:
