“Gabriel came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, Khadijah is coming to you with a vessel containing seasoning, food, or drink. When she comes to you, convey to her greetings of peace from her Lord, the Most High, and from me, and give her glad tidings of a house ...’” The hadith continues in full with the same wording. It was recorded by al-Bukhari (3/14 and 4/979), Muslim as well, and Ahmad (2/230); and through Ahmad’s route, al-Hakim also recorded it and said: “Authentic according to the criteria of the Two Shaykhs, yet neither of them recorded it!” This is what he said, though it is one of his many errors in which al-Dhahabi followed him in al-Mustadrak concerning the Two Ṣaḥīḥs. Both of them did, in fact, record it!
4 — As for the hadith of Ibn Abi Awfa, Ismaʿil ibn Abi Khalid narrated it, saying: “I said to ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Awfa: ‘Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, give Khadijah glad tidings of a house in Paradise?’ He said: ‘Yes, he gave her glad tidings of a house ...’” The hadith. It was recorded by the Two Shaykhs and Ahmad (4/355, 356, 357, and 381).
Qasab here means fresh pearls inlaid with rubies.
1555 — “Gabriel commanded me to give precedence to the elders.”
Abu Bakr al-Shafiʿi narrated it in al-Fawaʾid (9/97/1): Abu Hafs ʿUmar ibn Musa al-Tawwazi narrated to us; Nuʿaym ibn Hammad informed us; Ibn al-Mubarak informed us; Usamah ibn Zayd informed us, from Nafiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with this wording.
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission. Its weakness lies in Nuʿaym ibn Hammad, who is weak and whom some scholars accused. The rest of its narrators are known and trustworthy, except al-Tawwazi—with a fatḥah on the ta and a doubled waw. Al-Khatib gave his biography.
