Sa‘id al-Jurayri also corroborated him in Abu Ya‘la’s work, where he was mentioned alongside Jabr ibn Habib. The opening portion of it is supported by a corroborating report from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gesturing with his finger during the prayer. When he concluded it, I heard him say…” He then cited the supplication, omitting the words “immediate and deferred” in both instances.
Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (no. 2058), through Qays ibn al-Rabi‘, from ‘A’idh ibn Nusayb, who said: I heard Jabir ibn Samurah.
I say: Qays ibn al-Rabi‘ had poor retention. As for ‘A’idh ibn Nusayb, Ibn Ma‘in declared him trustworthy, while Abu Hatim said: “A shaykh.” Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat (3/208).
1543 — “O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty and mercy, for none possesses them but You.”
Abu Nu‘aym narrated it in al-Hilyah (5/36 and 7/239), through al-Tabarani, who recorded it in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (no. 10379): ‘Abdan ibn Ahmad narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Ziyad al-Burjumi narrated to us: ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us, from Mis‘ar, from Zubayd, from Murrah, from ‘Abd Allah, who said: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, received a guest, so he sent to his wives seeking food from them, but he found none with any of them. He then said the above supplication. A roasted sheep was then presented to him, and he said: ‘This is from Allah’s bounty, and we await mercy.’”
Abu Nu‘aym said: “This is a singular report from Mis‘ar and Zubayd; al-Burjumi alone transmitted it.”
I say: Ibn Hibban, Ibn Ishkab, and al-Fadl ibn Sa‘d al-A‘raj declared him trustworthy, as stated in al-Lisan. Abu Hatim, however, did not know him and said: “Unknown,” as his son related from him (3/2/258). Al-Dhahabi followed him in al-Mizan, as did others. All the other narrators are trustworthy, so the chain is authentic in my view. Al-Haythami said in Majma‘ al-Zawa’id (10/159):
