Al-Tahawi also recorded the hadith through Abu al-Ashath Ahmad ibn al-Miqdam al-Ijli, who said: Ibn Uyaynah narrated it to us in a more complete form. Its wording is: “All of Arafah is a place of standing, so keep away from the bottom of Uranah. All of Muzdalifah is a place of standing, so keep away from the bottom of Muhassir. And all the mountain passes of Mina are places of sacrifice.” Its chain of transmission is also authentic. As for the instruction to use pebbles the size of those used for flicking, it has been reported from a group of the Companions; the documentation for many of these reports has already been given under no. 1437.
1535 — “Stay in your home.”
Ibn Adi (325/1) and Ibn Asakir (16/388/1) narrated it through Abu al-Rabi al-Zahrani, who said: Al-Furat ibn Abi al-Furat informed us, saying: I heard Muawiyah ibn Qurrah narrate from Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed a man to an office. The man said, “O Messenger of Allah, choose for me.” He then mentioned the above words.
I say: This chain of transmission is weak. Concerning al-Furat ibn Abi al-Furat, Abu Hatim said, “Truthful,” while Ibn Ma'in said, “He is of no account.” Ibn Adi said, “Weakness is plainly evident in his narrations.” Nevertheless, the hadith is established, for it has corroborating reports that strengthen it. Among them is a lengthy hadith from Abu Dharr, which I have documented in al-Irwa (2517). Another is a hadith from Muhammad ibn Salamah al-Ansari, recorded by Ahmad (4/225). Its narrators are trustworthy, except that al-Hasan al-Basri did not explicitly state that he heard it.
