“He is unknown, and the report is rejected.” He then cited this report for him from the narration of al-ʿUqayli.
In sum, the hadith in this latter wording is weak, because this Bahlat is unknown, and ʿAbd al-Majid, who narrated from him, is weak. As for the wording cited in the heading, it is authentic on account of its multiple chains and corroborating reports. For this reason, I included it in Sahih al-Jamiʿ al-Saghir, unlike the hadith of Bahlat, which I included in Daʿif al-Jamiʿ al-Saghir. I had printed an annotation on it, but it should be removed, for it is a clear error—as will be evident to anyone who reads this hadith documentation. Allah is the One whose help is sought.
1529 — “The earth will surely be filled with injustice and oppression; then, when it has been filled with injustice and oppression, Allah will send a man from my line, whose name is the same as mine, and he will fill it with equity and justice, just as it had been filled with injustice and oppression.”
Al-Bazzar narrated it (pp. 236–237, Zawaʾid Ibn Hajar), as did Ibn ʿAdi in al-Kamil (1/129) and Abu Nuʿaym in Akhbar Asbahan (2/165), through Dawud ibn al-Muhabbar, who said: My father, al-Muhabbar ibn Qahdham, narrated to us from his father, Qahdham ibn Sulayman, from Muʿawiyah ibn Qurrah, from his father, attributed to the Prophet.
Al-Bazzar said: “Maʿmar narrated it from Harun, from Muʿawiyah ibn Qurrah, from Abu al-Siddiq, from Abu Saʿid; and Dawud and his father are weak.” Al-Haythami likewise declared them both weak in al-Majmaʿ (7/314), saying: “Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani, in al-Kabir and al-Awsat, narrated it through Dawud ibn al-Muhabbar ibn Qahdham, from his father; and both are weak.” That is what he said! However, in Zawaʾid al-Bazzar, Ibn Hajar challenged al-Bazzar, saying after the statement I have just cited: “Rather, Dawud is a liar.”
