Muhammad ibn ʿAmr, from ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn ʿAmr ibn Dumrah al-Fazari, from a man of Juhaynah, who said: “I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: ‘When should I pray the later ʿIsha prayer?’” Then he mentioned it.
I say: This chain of transmission consists of trustworthy narrators, apart from this Ibn Dumrah. Ibn Abi Hatim included his biography but mentioned no criticism or accreditation of him. It has a supporting narration from the hadith of ʿAʾishah, who said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about the time of ʿIsha,” then she mentioned it. Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Awsat (1/17/2): ʿAli ibn Saʿid al-Razi narrated to us; Qatan ibn Nusayr al-Zarraʿ narrated to us; Jaʿfar ibn Sulayman al-Dubaʿi narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ʿAmr, from Yahya ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, from her.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy, though there is some minor criticism of ʿAli ibn Saʿid al-Razi on account of his memory. In sum, the hadith is established through the combined strength of the two routes, and its lowest possible grade is good. And Allah knows best.
1521 — “Recite Surah al-Baqarah in your homes, for Satan does not enter a house in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited.”
Al-Hakim recorded it (1/561) through the route of ʿAsim, from Abu al-Ahwas, from ʿAbd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission, and its narrators are trustworthy. There is criticism of ʿAsim—who was Ibn Bahdalah—and Salamah ibn Kuhayl contradicted him in narrating from Abu al-Ahwas. He said: “ʿAbd Allah said...” then mentioned it as attributed to the Companion.
