As for this Saʿid, al-Bukhari said: “His hadith is rejected.” Al-Nasaʾi said: “Abandoned.”
I then found a corroborating narration for ʿAbdullah ibn Saʿid al-Maqburi, but it is equally weak. Abu Yaʿla recorded it in his Musnad (1542), through Ibrahim ibn al-Fadl ibn Sulayman, a client of Banu Makhzum, from al-Maqburi, with the same report. In one version recorded by him, it reads: “The arena of deaths lies between sixty and seventy.” It was also recorded by al-Ramahurmuzi in al-Amthal (47/1), al-Khatib in al-Tarikh (5/476), and al-Qudaʿi (15/2). Al-Hafiz said: “Ibrahim ibn al-Fadl al-Makhzumi is abandoned.” Yet it is corroborated by the previously cited hadith of Abu Hurayrah, no. 727, for al-Thaʿlabi recorded it through Ibn ʿArafah with this wording. And Allah knows best.
1518 — “Limit your going out after people have settled down for the night, for Allah has creatures that He sends forth over the earth at that hour.”
Al-Bukhari recorded it in al-Adab al-Mufrad (1233), as did Abu Dawud (5104), through al-Layth, from Khalid ibn Yazid, from Saʿid ibn Abi Hilal, from Saʿid ibn Ziyad, from Jabir ibn ʿAbdullah, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Bukhari also recorded it (1235), as did Abu Dawud, through other routes from al-Layth, who said: “Yazid ibn al-Had narrated to me from ʿUmar ibn ʿAli ibn Husayn”—Abu Dawud said: “From ʿAli ibn ʿUmar ibn Husayn ibn ʿAli and another; both said”—“from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.” Ibn al-Had said: “And Shurahbil narrated to me from Jabir, from him.”
I say: Thus, these are three chains for al-Layth ibn Saʿd,
