for all the remaining narrators are trustworthy and are among Muslim’s narrators, apart from al-Tabarani’s shaykh, Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Makram al-Baghdadi. Al-Daraqutni declared him trustworthy, as cited from him in Tarikh Baghdad (2/233). Ibrahim ibn Fahd said: “No one has come to us from Baghdad more knowledgeable of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, than Abu Bakr ibn Makram, especially concerning Basran hadith.” I know nothing further about him. He died in 309 AH. Al-Mujam al-Kabir reads: “... ibn al-Hasan,” but the correct reading is “ibn al-Husayn,” as found in Tarikh Baghdad. This correct form likewise appears in al-Tabarani’s al-Mujam al-Saghir (no. 865, al-Maktab al-Islami edition; and no. 1024, al-Rawd al-Nadir), in several places in al-Mujam al-Awsat (nos. 6135-6161 in my numbering), and in al-Dhahabi’s Tadhkirat al-Huffaz (2/735), where he describes him as “the hafiz, imam, and musnid.”] 161/21: “... al-Tabarani also [in al-Mujam al-Kabir (23/289/no. 637)] from ...” 161/26: [I say: It contains Yahya al-Himmani. Al-Hafiz said: “A hadith master, though they accused him of stealing hadith.”] 178/7: [I say: Al-Bukhari (2076) and Ibn Majah (2203) also narrated it through another chain from Jabir, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: “May Allah have mercy on a man who is lenient when he sells, when he buys, and when he seeks repayment.”] 194/14: “... then that came [in another wording: ‘then it moved aside’] ...” 194/22: “And through him [Muslim (8/223) and] Ibn Mandah ...” 206/18: “... 1/136/2) [and Abu Zayd Umar ibn Shabbah in Tarikh al-Madinah (2/239)], and its narrators ...” 210/10: “... /2, combined total 6) [and in Musnad al-Shamiyyin (p. 24, Islamic University facsimile)] and Abu Nuaym ...”
