Aḥmad narrated it (2/359) through Zuhayr ibn Muḥammad, from Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
I say: This is a chain of transmission meeting Muslim’s criteria, although this Zuhayr—Abū al-Mundhir al-Khurāsānī—has some weakness in respect to his retention. Concerning the hadith, al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar said in Fatḥ al-Bārī (11/345): “Aḥmad and al-Bayhaqī narrated it in al-Baʿth (The Resurrection) through the narration of Sahl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ … Its chain is good. There are also reports on this subject from Abū Ayyūb, narrated by al-Ṭabarānī; from Ḥudhayfah, narrated by Aḥmad; from Anas, narrated by al-Bazzār; and from Thawbān, narrated by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim. These chains strengthen one another.”
I say: There is also a report from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, narrated by Aḥmad as well (1/197).
1485 — “Among those before you was a man who had a wound. He became impatient, took a knife, and cut his hand with it. The bleeding did not cease until he died. Allah, the Most High, said: ‘My servant has forestalled Me by taking his own life, so I have forbidden Paradise to him.’”
Al-Bukhārī narrated it (2/373), as did Abū Yaʿlā in al-Maghārīd (1/70/1), through Jarīr, from al-Ḥasan, who said: Jundub ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us in this mosque, and we have not forgotten it since he related it to us; nor do we fear that Jundub lied about the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this.
1486 — “Which of you loves the wealth of his heir more than his own wealth?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, there is none among us whose own wealth is not dearer to him than the wealth of his heir.” He said: “Know that there is none among you but that the wealth of his heir is dearer to him than his own wealth: your wealth is what you send ahead, and your heir’s wealth is what you leave behind.”
Al-Nasāʾī narrated it (2/125), as did Aḥmad (1/382), through Abū Muʿāwiyah.
