Al-Khatib included it under the biographical entry for this ʿIsa and said: “Al-Daraqutni said: ‘A shaykh who was in Baghdad.’” He mentioned no criticism or accreditation concerning him; thus, his standing is unknown. ʿAttab ibn Bashir was truthful but prone to errors, as stated in al-Taqrib, and al-Bukhari transmitted from him. In sum, I consider the hadith’s chain of transmission good. And Allah knows best.
1477 — “Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him; establish the prescribed prayer; pay the obligatory zakah; perform Hajj and ʿUmrah”—Ashhad said: “And I believe he said: ‘Fast Ramadan’”—“and consider what you would like people to do to you, and do it to them; and whatever you dislike people doing to you, do not do it to them.”
Al-Tabarani narrated it (vol. 4, no. 3222, p. 16), saying: Hatim ibn Bukayr al-Dabbi narrated to me: Ashhad ibn Hatim al-Artabaʾi narrated to us: Ibn ʿAwn narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Juhadah, from a man, from a colleague of his, from his father—whose kunyah was Abu al-Muntafiq—who said: “I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at ʿArafah. I drew near to him until the neck of my mount came alongside the neck of his mount, and I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will save me from Allah’s punishment and admit me into His Paradise.’ He said…” Then he mentioned it.
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission, due to the unknown status of the man and his colleague. Ashhad ibn Hatim was truthful but prone to errors, as al-Hafiz stated. Moreover, he was contradicted regarding its chain of transmission. Ahmad said (6/383): ʿAffan narrated to us: Hammam narrated to us: Muhammad Juhadah narrated to us: Al-Mughirah ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Yashkuri narrated to me, from his father, who said: “I set out for Kufah to procure provisions. Then I came to … the mosque … and found there a man from Qays called Ibn al-Muntafiq, who was saying…” Then he cited it as a report attributed to the Prophet, in an account of his experience with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He then recorded it (5/372–373) through the route of Yunus ibn al-Mughirah ibn ʿAbd Allah, with this chain.
