Al-Haythamī likewise cites the ḥadīth in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (10/207) using Aḥmad’s wording and remarks:
“It was transmitted by Aḥmad and by Abū Yaʿlā with his chain—in their version the phrase reads, ‘I shall continue to mislead Your servants’—and by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsat. One of Aḥmad’s two isnāds is composed of the narrators relied upon by al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and the same applies to one of Abū Yaʿlā’s.”
Apparently the break in the chain that I have just mentioned escaped him. I make this observation whilst aware that a ḥadīth scholar’s statement, “Its transmitters are the men of al-Ṣaḥīḥ,” or, “Its transmitters are trustworthy,” and the like, does not of itself authenticate the isnād, contrary to what some people imagine. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar has explicitly affirmed this. After quoting a different ḥadīth in his at-Talikhiṣ (p. 239) he writes:
“The fact that its transmitters are trustworthy does not necessarily render the ḥadīth sound, because al-Aʿmash is a concealed narrator (mudallis) and he did not state that he had heard it directly.”
105 – “On the night I was taken on the Night Journey I met Abraham. He said, ‘O Muḥammad, convey my greetings to your community and tell them that Paradise has fine soil and sweet water; it is a broad plain whose seedlings are: subḥān Allāh (how perfect Allah is), al-ḥamdu lillāh (praise be to Allah), lā ilāha illā Allāh (there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah) and Allāhu akbar (Allah is greater).’”
Al-Tirmidhī recorded it (2/258, Būlāq ed.) from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq, from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Ibn Masʿūd, as a marfūʿ report, and he said:
