Al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (4/290): “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it, and its chain includes Yazīd ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Nawfalī, who is weak, though Ibn Maʿīn declared him trustworthy in his narration.”
I say: The hadith is therefore good on account of this report, especially since it conveys the same meaning as the hadith of Ibn al-Zubayr, attributed to the Prophet: “Publicize marriage.”
1464 — “Intercede, and you will be rewarded. At times I intend to do something but delay it, so that you may intercede and thereby be rewarded.”
It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (5132), al-Nasāʾī (1/356), and al-Kharāʾiṭī in Makārim al-Akhlāq (p. 75), through Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, from his brother, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān, who said that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said this.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission meeting the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Both of them recorded a similar report from Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī. It was also recorded from him by the aforementioned three, as well as by al-Tirmidhī (2/112), who said: “A good, authentic hadith”; by Aḥmad (4/400, 409, 413); and by al-Khaṭīb in al-Tārīkh (2/5). Al-Nasāʾī’s wording of the hadith under discussion is: “A man asks me for something, and I withhold it from him until you intercede for him, and are thereby rewarded. Intercede, and you will be rewarded.” Al-Suyūṭī attributed it in al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr only to al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr, and thus fell short; al-Manāwī passed over this without comment.
1465 — “Feed people food, and speak graciously.”
Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it (1/275/2): Al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad al-Dallāl narrated to us; Makḥūl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; Kāmil Abū al-ʿAlāʾ narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sulaymān, from al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, attributed to the Prophet.
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission. This al-Dallāl was declared weak by al-Dāraquṭnī, though Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in al-Thiqāt, and al-Ḥākim recorded a report from him in al-Mustadrak. The narrators above him are trustworthy, apart from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sulaymān, whom I could not identify. Then he narrated it (1/294/2): Aḥmad ibn ʿAmr al-Qaṭrānī narrated to us; Ziyād ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us; Abū ʿAttāb al-Dallāl narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Thābit narrated to me; Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit narrated to me, from al-Ḥasan, attributed to the Prophet.
