1457 — “The Fire complained to its Lord, saying: ‘One part of me has consumed another.’ So He gave it two breaths: a breath in winter and a breath in summer. Its winter breath is severe cold, and its summer breath is scorching heat.”
Al-Tirmidhi (3/346) and Ibn Majah (2/586) recorded it through al-Aʿmash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this. Al-Tirmidhi, whose wording is cited here, said: “A good, authentic hadith.”
I say: Its chain in Ibn Majah is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim. Both of them also recorded it, as did Ahmad (2/238, 277, 462, and 503), through various routes from Abu Hurayrah, in similar wording.
1458 — “Merchants will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection as wicked people, except those who fear Allah, act righteously, and speak truthfully.”
Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in Shuʿab al-Iman (2/53/2), from Abu al-ʿAbbas Ahmad ibn Saʿid al-Jammal: ʿAbdullah ibn Bakr al-Sahmi narrated to us; Hatim ibn Abi Saghirah narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Dinar, from al-Baraʾ ibn ʿAzib, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to us at al-Baqiʿ and said: “O company of merchants!” When they craned their necks toward him, he said this.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. All its narrators are trustworthy and were narrators used by al-Bukhari and Muslim, apart from this Abu al-ʿAbbas. Al-Khatib gave his biography (4/170) and said: “He was trustworthy, and his hadith were good.” Ibn al-Munadi said: “He was among the trustworthy narrators.” Al-Khatib then related it through Ismaʿil ibn ʿUbaydah ibn Rifaʿah ibn Rafiʿ al-Ansari al-Zuraqi, from his father, from his grandfather Rifaʿah,
