Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Hajj said: Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Qarqasani al-ʿAttar informed us; Ahmad ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman narrated to us; Ghandar narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us from Marwan al-Asghar, from al-Nazzal ibn Sabrah, from him, with the same wording but omitting the words: “For indeed …”
I say: This is an obscure chain of transmission in the links subsequent to Ghandar—whose name was Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar—for I do not know them. It is possible that ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman is Imam al-Darimi, the author of al-Sunan, known as al-Musnad, for he belonged to this generation. As for Ahmad ibn ʿAbd Allah, I believe he was al-Juwaybari, the well-known liar.

As for the hadith of ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbbas, it is narrated by al-Husayn Abd Allah—the vendor of merchandise: Ibrahim ibn Saʿid al-Jawhari narrated to us; al-Maʾmun narrated to me; al-Rashid, the Commander of the Faithful, narrated to me from al-Mahdi, who confided something to him, saying: “Do not disclose it to anyone, for the Commander of the Faithful”—meaning al-Mansur—“narrated to me from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbas, attributing it to the Prophet.” Al-Khatib recorded it in al-Tarikh (8/56–57), and related from Ahmad ibn Kamil al-Qadi that he said concerning this al-Husayn: “He was a licentious oddball and a liar in those hadiths that he narrated as reports with continuous chains from the caliphs.”

As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, it is narrated by Sahl ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Jurjani, from Muhammad ibn Mutarrif, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, from him, attributing it to the Prophet. Ibn Hibban recorded it in Rawdat al-ʿUqalaʾ (p. 187), as did al-Sahmi in Tarikh Jurjan (p. 182, in the biography of this al-Jurjani). He mentioned neither adverse criticism nor accreditation concerning him. In my view, he is Sahl ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, known as al-Sindi ibn ʿAbawayh al-Razi. Ibn Abi Hatim (2/1/201) said: “His kunyah was Abu al-Haytham. He narrated from Zuhayr ibn Muʿawiyah, Sharik, Mandal, Jarir ibn Hazim, and others. ʿAmr ibn Rafiʿ, Hajjaj ibn Hamzah, Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Tehrani, Muhammad ibn ʿAmmar, and others narrated from him.”
