“Acceptable,” that is, when corroborated. I have found a supporting report for it in the hadith of ʿUbadah ibn al-Samit, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Seek refuge in Allah from poverty, destitution, and from wronging others or being wronged.” Al-Haythami said (10/143): “Al-Tabarani narrated it. Yahya ibn Ishaq ibn Yahya ibn ʿUbadah did not hear from ʿUbadah, but the rest of its narrators are narrators of the Sahih.”
The hadith was also narrated by Hammad ibn Salamah, who said: Ishaq ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Talhah informed us, from Saʿid ibn Yasar, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from scarcity, poverty, and humiliation; and I seek refuge in You from wronging others or being wronged.” Al-Nasaʾi and Ibn Hibban (2443) narrated it.
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic.
1446 — “Hang the whip where the members of the household can see it.”
Abu Nuʿaym narrated it (7/332): Habib ibn al-Hasan narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Ibrahim al-Akfani narrated to us; Ishaq ibn Bahlul narrated to us; Suwayd ibn ʿAmr al-Kalbi narrated to us; al-Hasan ibn Salih narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Dinar, from Ibn ʿUmar, attributed to the Prophet.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Habib ibn al-Hasan was declared weak by al-Barqani, but declared trustworthy by Ibn Abi al-Ghawwas, al-Khatib, and Abu Nuʿaym, as stated in al-Mizan. Al-Khatib included a biographical notice for ʿAbd Allah ibn Ibrahim al-Akfani (9/405) and said: “He was trustworthy.” Regarding Ishaq ibn Bahlul, Ibn Abi Hatim said (1/1/215): “My father was asked about him and said: ‘Truthful.’” The remaining narrators in the chain are well-known, trustworthy narrators documented in al-Tahdhib. The hadith also has a supporting report from Ibn ʿAbbas, narrated by al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad.
