The hadith also has a corroborating report from Ghālib al-Qaṭṭān, from a man, from his father, from his grandfather, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the same wording. It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/23), and its chain of transmission is unknown, as you can see. Al-Ḥāfiẓ remained silent about it in al-Fatḥ (13/144), perhaps because of its corroborating reports, among them the preceding hadith of Anas.
Another is the report narrated by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAmr ibn Jablah—one of the weak narrators—from ʿUbayd ibn Ziyād al-Shanī, from al-Jallās ibn Ziyād al-Shanī, from Jaʿbūnah ibn Ziyād al-Shanī, who heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say it. Ibn Mandah related it in this manner, in suspended form, as cited by al-Ḥāfiẓ in al-Iṣābah, and said: “The rest of its narrators are unknown.”
I say: Accordingly, when all these routes are considered together, the hadith is good, Allah willing.
1418 — “Those of my Ummah who love me most intensely will be people who will live—or emerge—after me. One of them would wish to give up his family and wealth if only he could see me.”
It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/156 and 170) through the route of Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Dhakwān Abū Ṣāliḥ, from an unnamed man of Banū Asad, who said that Abū Dharr informed him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this.
I say: All the narrators in this chain are trustworthy except the man of Banū Asad, who was not named. Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ differed from him, narrating from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: “Among the people of my Ummah who love me most intensely are those who will come after me; one of them would wish to see me even at the cost of his family and wealth.” It was recorded by Muslim (8/145).
It was also narrated from Anas, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording. Abū al-Shaykh recorded it in Ṭabaqāt al-Aṣbahāniyyīn (p. 50) through Ibrāhīm ibn Hudbah, from him. This Ibrāhīm is abandoned; thus, reliance is upon the preceding report.
