I say: This chain is acceptable as corroborating evidence. Al-Walid ibn Muslim also corroborated him, reporting it to us from Ibn Lahi'ah. Abu al-Husayn al-Kulabi recorded it in the manuscript of Abu al-Abbas Tahir ibn Muhammad. Its narrators are trustworthy and are among Muslim’s narrators, apart from Ibn Lahi'ah, whose memory was poor. As for al-Haythami, he said in al-Majma' (3/153): “Ahmad narrated it, and its chain is good.”

Ishaq narrated from Abdullah ibn Ma'qil, from Bilal, who said: “I came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to give him the call for the dawn prayer, while he intended to fast. He called for a vessel and drank, then handed it to me, and I drank. Then we went out to the prayer.” Ibn Jarir (3018 and 3019) and Ahmad (6/12) recorded it. Its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of both al-Bukhari and Muslim, so it is an authentic chain were it not for the fact that Abu Ishaq—namely, al-Sabi'i—became confused in his later years and practised concealment in transmission. However, it is strengthened by the narration of Ja'far ibn Burqan, from Shaddad, the freedman of Iyad ibn Amir, from Bilal, with similar wording. Ahmad recorded it (6/13).

Muti' ibn Rashid narrated: Tawbah al-Anbari related to me that he heard Anas ibn Malik say: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “See who is in the mosque and invite him.” So I entered—the mosque, that is—and found Abu Bakr and Umar. I invited them, then brought him something, which I placed before him. He ate, and they ate; then they went out, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, led them in the dawn prayer.
Al-Bazzar recorded it (no. 993) in Kashf al-Astar and said: “We know of no connected-chain narration from Tawbah from Anas other than this and another report, and no one besides Muti' narrated both of them from him.” Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in his Zawa'id (p. 106): “Its chain is good.”
I say: Al-Haythami likewise said so in al-Majma' (3/152).
- Qays ibn al-Rabi' narrated from Zuhayr ibn Abi Thabit al-A'ma, from Tamim ibn Iyad, from Ibn Umar, who said:
