others, it will reach their knees; others, their loins; and others will be bridled by it.”
Muslim (2864), al-Tirmidhī (2423), and Aḥmad (6/3) recorded it through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir, who said: Sulaym ibn ʿĀmir related to me; al-Miqdād, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah, related to us, saying: “I heard the Messenger of Allah say…” and he mentioned it. At its end, he added: “I saw the Messenger of Allah gesture with his hand towards his mouth,” meaning that it would bridle him completely. The wording is al-Tirmidhī’s, and he said: “A good and authentic hadith.” It also has a corroborating report from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording. Ibn Ḥibbān (2538) and al-Ḥākim (4/571) recorded it. Al-Ḥākim said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic,” and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. It is as they said.

The one who aids his people in falsehood is like a camel that falls into a well and is hauled out by its tail.”
Aḥmad (1/401) recorded it: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAmr and Muʾammal both related to us, saying: Sufyān related to us from Simāk, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿAbd Allāh, who said: “I came upon the Prophet while he was in a red tent”—ʿAbd al-Malik said: “made of tanned hide”—“with about forty men, and he said…” Then he mentioned it. Abū Dāwūd likewise recorded it in his Sunan (2/624–625, al-Ḥalabī edition): Ibn Bashshār related to us; Abū ʿĀmir related to us; Sufyān related it with this chain, up to the words, “made of tanned hide.” He said:
