(Note): Al-Manawi stated in al-Fayd that al-Hakim narrated this hadith in al-Iman and said: “It meets Muslim’s criteria,” and al-Dhahabi concurred. This is one of his errors—may Allah have mercy on him. Al-Hakim actually narrated it in al-Fitan wa al-Malahim, in the place previously indicated, and did not declare it authentic according to Muslim’s criteria; rather, he simply declared it authentic, and al-Dhahabi concurred. As for al-Iman, it contains only another hadith from Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the same meaning, but it does not contain the words: “and even if one of them ...” Al-Majmaʿ (7/261) states: “Al-Bazzar narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy.”
(Note): The wording “his mother” is found in all the sources previously cited for this hadith—Ibn Nasr, al-Dulabi, and al-Bazzar—and it is correct. In al-Hakim’s al-Mustadrak, however, it appears as: “his wife.” This is an error on the part of one of its narrators or copyists. I failed to draw attention to this in Sahih al-Jami al-Saghir wa Ziyadatuh (4943), for al-Suyuti cited it only through al-Hakim, with the wording mentioned above. Therefore, whoever has a copy of it, or of al-Jami al-Saghir or al-Fath al-Kabir, should annotate it accordingly.
It should also be noted that the corroborating report from the hadith of Ibn Amr, previously mentioned, has the first and correct wording. It also appears in Sahih al-Jami under no. 5219. I made an error there as well: I deleted the sentence relating to this wording and replaced it with ellipsis—as I have done in this book to indicate that the omitted material is weak. This was a slip on my part, and I ask Allah to forgive me for it. For the opposite is correct, as you now know. Accordingly, the wording in Sahih al-Jami should be corrected by restoring the deleted sentence. Allah Most High is the Giver of success.
1349 — “Clean between your fingers and toes,” meaning: perform minor ablution thoroughly. Among what he told him was: “When you bow, place your palms upon your knees until you are at ease; and when you prostrate, press your forehead firmly to the ground until you can feel the ground beneath it.”
Ahmad narrated it (1/287) through Musa ibn Uqbah, from Salih, the freedman of al-Taw’amah, who said: I heard Ibn Abbas say:
