Ahmad (2/269) and Muslim (7/52) also recorded it through Ayyub, from Ibn Sirin, with the same report, but without the words: “If one of you sees a dream that pleases him, let him recount it if he wishes.” The remainder is exactly the same. Its chain of transmission is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and al-Tirmidhi authenticated it (3/247—Tuhfah). It also has a supporting narration from ‘Awf ibn Malik, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with similar wording, which will appear under 1870.
1342 — “If she sees that and emits fluid, then she must perform ghusl.”
Muslim (1/172), Abu ‘Awanah (1/289), Ibn Majah (601), and Ahmad (3/121, 199, and 282) recorded it through Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah, from Qatadah, from Anas: “Umm Sulaym asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about a woman who sees in her sleep what men see. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said”—and he mentioned the above. Umm Salamah then asked, “O Messenger of Allah, does this happen?” He replied, “Yes. A man’s fluid is thick and white, while a woman’s fluid is thin and yellow. Whichever of the two precedes or predominates, the child resembles it.”
The wording is Ibn Majah’s. Al-Nasa’i (1/43) recorded from it the words: “A man’s fluid is thick …” What precedes this has another route from Anas with similar wording, recorded by Abu ‘Awanah and others. There is also a supporting narration from ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, recorded by Muslim, Abu ‘Awanah, and others. See Sahih Abi Dawud (234–235).
1343 — “When one of you is invited to a meal, let him accept. If he is not fasting, let him eat; and if he is fasting, let him supplicate.”
Abu ‘Ubayd reported it in Gharib al-Hadith (29/1): Ibn ‘Ulayyah and Yazid both narrated to us from Hisham ibn Hassan, from Ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. Muslim, the authors of the Sunan collections, and others also recorded it, as documented in al-Irwa’ (2013). I have cited it here only because of this uncommon source.
