1324 — “If Allah brings you provision without your asking for it or coveting it, then take it, for Allah has given it to you.”
Ibn Hibban narrated it (856) from Harmalah ibn Yahya: Ibn Wahb narrated to us: ʿAmr ibn al-Harith narrated to us that Bakr ibn Sawadah told him that ʿAbdullah ibn Yazid al-Maʿafiri told him, from Qabisah ibn Dhuʾayb, that ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab gave al-Saʿdi one thousand dinars, but he refused to accept them and said, “We have no need of them.” ʿUmar then said to him, “I shall tell you what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me...” He then mentioned it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the criteria of Muslim. Muslim also narrated it in his Sahih (no. 1045), through other routes from ʿUmar, with similar wording but without the phrase, “one thousand dinars.”
1325 — “When one of you asks, let him ask abundantly, for he is asking only his Lord.”
Ibn Hibban narrated it (2403) through Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri: Sufyan narrated to us, from Hisham ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿAʾishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim. Al-Zubayri’s name was Muhammad ibn ʿAbdullah ibn al-Zubayr ibn ʿUmar al-Asadi al-Zubayri, the client of their clan. ʿUbaydullah ibn Musa also narrated it from Sufyan with similar wording. Its wording has previously appeared under no. 1266.
1326 — “There are two types among the people of Hell whom I have not seen: people carrying whips like the tails of cattle, with which they strike people; and women who are clothed yet naked, inclining and causing others to incline, their heads like the leaning humps of camels. They will not enter Paradise, nor will they smell its fragrance, though its fragrance can be detected from such-and-such a distance.”
Muslim narrated it (8/155), as did al-Bayhaqi (2/234) and Ahmad (2/355–
