Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

Ibn Jarir al-Tabari transmitted it in his Exegesis (vol. 5, p. 600, no. 6231) through Saʿid, from Qatadah, concerning the words, “They do not ask people importunately”: We were told that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say it. He then cited it.

Ibn al-Mundhir also transmitted it, as mentioned in al-Durr al-Manthur (1/359). Nasr al-Maqdisi likewise transmitted it in al-Arbaʿin (Hadith 21), on the authority of ʿAʾishah, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Its chain includes ʿIsmah ibn Muhammad ibn Fadalah al-Ansari, who was accused of lying and fabrication.

Al-Tabarani transmitted, in a selection from it (folio 84/2), from Suwar ibn Musʿab al-Hamdani, from ʿAmr ibn Qays al-Mulaʾi, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Shaqiq ibn Salamah, from Ibn Masʿud, who said—then he cited the story of a man with Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, and her palm-leaf document, which contained a hadith attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stating:

“By Allah, Allah loves the forbearing, modest, chaste person who refrains from begging, and He detests the obscene, foul-mouthed, importunate beggar.”

However, Suwar is abandoned, as al-Nasaʾi and others stated.

Abu Yaʿla, in his Musnad (1/295), Abu Bakr ibn Sulayman al-Faqih, in A Session from the Dictations (16/1), and al-Bayhaqi, in al-Shuʿab (2/231/1), all transmitted it through ʿUthman ibn Abi Shaybah: ʿImran ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Layla narrated to us from his father, from ʿAtiyyah, from Abu Saʿid, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the wording:

“Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. He loves to see His blessing upon His servant, and He detests wretchedness and the pretence of wretchedness.”

ʿAtiyyah and Muhammad ibn Abi Layla are both weak.

1321 — “When one of you comes to a gathering, if there is room for him, let him sit; otherwise, let him look for the most spacious place he sees and sit there.”

Al-Silafi transmitted it in al-Tuyuriyyat (65/1), and Ibn ʿAsakir (8/77/2), through al-Baghawi: Muhammad ibn Sulayman Luwayn narrated to us; Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Zurarah, from Musʿab ibn Shaybah, from his father, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

I then saw it in a fragment of Luwayn’s hadiths (2/2), with this chain of transmission. (See the addendum, no. 312/22.)
