Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

with some of the obligatory duties and committed some prohibited acts. Such a person is among those subject to Allah’s will: He may forgive him, as stated in the hadith that follows this one and in other well-known expiatory hadiths.

The third is like the preceding case, except that he has not fulfilled its due rights, nor has it restrained him from what Allah has forbidden, as in the hadith of Abu Dharr, reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim: “Even if he commits adultery and steals ...” the hadith. Moreover, he has performed no deeds by which he would deserve Allah’s forgiveness. For such a person, only the Fire decreed for the disbelievers is forbidden; thus, even if he enters it, he will not remain therein forever with them. Rather, he will emerge from it through intercession or otherwise, and will inevitably enter Paradise. This is explicitly stated in the Prophet’s saying, peace and blessings be upon him: “Whoever says, ‘There is no god but Allah,’ it will benefit him one day in his lifetime, though before that he may suffer whatever he suffers.” It is an authentic hadith, as will be shown in its verification, Allah willing, under no. (1932). And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, knows best.

1315 — “Whoever meets Allah without associating anything with Him, prays the five daily prayers, and fasts Ramadan, will be forgiven.” I said: “Should I not give them glad tidings, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Let them work.”

Imam Ahmad recorded it (5/232): Ruh narrated to us; Zuhayr ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Zayd ibn Aslam narrated to us, from Ata ibn Yasar, from Muadh ibn Jabal, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say it. He then mentioned the hadith.

I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission, as I previously mentioned in my notes on Mishkat al-Masabih (no. 47). The reason is that all the narrators in its chain are trustworthy and were relied upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. As for Zuhayr ibn Muhammad—Abu al-Mundhir al-Khurasani—although some scholars deemed him weak on account of his memory, the sounder view concerning him is the nuanced distinction adopted by our leading imams. Al-Bukhari said: “What he narrated from the people of Syria consists of objectionable reports, whereas what he narrated from the people of Basra is authentic.”

I say: Ruh, who narrates from him here, is Ibn Ubadah al-Basri, the hadith master. Al-Athram related from Ahmad:
