Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

1247 — “Seek ruqyah for her, for she has been afflicted by the evil eye.”

Al-Bukhari (10/165), whose wording is cited here, and Muslim (7/18) recorded it through Muhammad ibn al-Walid al-Zubaydi, who said: Al-Zuhri informed us, from ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, from Zaynab, daughter of Abu Salamah, from Umm Salamah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw in her house a young girl whose face bore a darkish discoloration. He then mentioned it. Al-Hakim also recorded it (4/212).

1248 — “The evil eye is real.”

Al-Bukhari (10/166), Muslim (7/13), Abu Dawud (2/153), and Ahmad (2/318) recorded it from the hadith of Hammam ibn Munabbih, from Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet. It has another route, recorded by Ibn Majah (2/356) from Mudharib ibn Hazn, from him. Its chain is good when considered alongside the preceding one.

Al-Bukhari and Ahmad include the addition: “And he forbade tattooing.” The hadith has many corroborating reports. Ibn Majah recorded it from the hadith of ʿAmir ibn Rabiʿah. Likewise, al-Hakim and others recorded it in a hadith cited previously, with the wording: “If one of you sees something in himself.” Among its corroborating reports are those that follow it. See: “Seek refuge in Allah from the evil eye,” “Most of those who die,” “Indeed, the evil eye,” “He would instruct her,” “I used to perform ruqyah,” “Tell Abu Thabit,” “What afflicts you,” “Whoever sees something,” “There is no reality to al-Hamah,” and “There is no contagion.”

1249 — “The evil eye puts a man in the grave and a camel in the cooking pot.”

In al-Jamiʿ, he states: “It was narrated by Ibn ʿAdi and Abu Nuʿaym in al-Hilyah from Jabir, and by Ibn ʿAdi from Abu Dharr.”

I say: Abu Nuʿaym recorded it in al-Hilyah (7/90), as did Abu Bakr al-Shirazi in Seven Sessions from al-Amali (8/2), and al-Khatib in his History (9/244).
