It was narrated by al-Bukhari (7/62, Fath al-Bārī), al-Ḍiyāʾ as well in al-Mukhtārah (64/44/2), and al-Ṭabarānī (1/150/2).
- From Zamʿah, from Salamah ibn Wahrām, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, tracing a similar report back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It was narrated by Abu Bakr al-Shāfiʿī in al-Fawāʾid (13/19/1), Ibn ʿAdī (150/2), al-Ḥākim (3/196 and 209), who declared it authentic, and al-Ḍiyāʾ as well. Then he and Ibn ʿAdī (1/2 and 2/1) transmitted it through the route of Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUthmān, who said: al-Ḥakam ibn ʿUtaybah narrated to us, from Miqsam, from Ibn ʿAbbās, tracing it back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it (1/150/2 and 3/148/1) from Jubārah ibn Mughallis, who said: Abu Shaybah narrated to us from al-Ḥakam, with it. He then narrated it through another route from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd as a mursal report with similar wording. Its chain is good. Abu Shaybah is Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUthmān, who is weak. When al-Ḥāfiẓ cited it through two routes from Ibn ʿAbbās, he said concerning one of them: “The chain of transmission of this is good.” He apparently meant the first route mentioned above.
Ibn ʿAdī also narrated it (258/2) from ʿIṣmah ibn Muḥammad al-Anṣārī: Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah informed us, from Kurayb, from Ibn ʿAbbās, tracing it back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: “None of ʿIṣmah’s hadith is preserved, and he is a narrator of rejected reports.”
- Ibn Saʿd narrated it (4/39) through the route of Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Ḍumayrah, from his father, from his grandfather, from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, tracing it back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the same wording.
I say: Regarding this Ḥusayn, Abu Ḥātim said: “His hadith is abandoned; he is a liar.” Therefore, he cannot be used as corroborative evidence, contrary to al-Ḥāfiẓ’s treatment of it in al-Fatḥ (7/62), where he made it a supporting report for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah. It seems that, while writing, he did not recall his status precisely.
He also narrated it (4/38–39) through the route of Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from an unnamed man, tracing it back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Its chain is authentic up to that man; if he was a Companion, then the chain is authentic, for the fact that a Companion is unidentified does not impair it. He then narrated from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mukhtār, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
