Al-ʿUqaylī also recorded it in al-Ḍuʿafāʾ (322) through the first route and said: “ʿUtbah ibn Abī ʿUtbah is not corroborated in this, and Mālik is questionable. The hadith is corroborated only through a route comparable to this one.”
6 — As for the hadith of Muʿādh, it is narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khirāsh, from al-ʿAwwām ibn Ḥawshab, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, from him. Ibn ʿAdī recorded it (220/2) and said: “ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khirāsh is rejected in hadith.”
I say: Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb: “Weak; Ibn ʿAmmār accused him of lying.”
I say: Shahr ibn Ḥawshab is also weak. Al-Ṭabarānī likewise recorded it through this route, as cited in al-Haythamī’s al-Majmaʿ, where he said: “Shahr did not live to meet Muʿādh.”
7 — As for the hadith of ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, it is narrated by al-Haytham ibn ʿAdī, who said: Mujālid narrated to us, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim. Al-Quḍāʿī (65/2) and al-ʿUqaylī (451) recorded it. He said: “Concerning al-Haytham ibn ʿAdī, Ibn Maʿīn said: ‘He is not trustworthy; he used to lie.’ Al-Bukhārī said: ‘They remained silent about him.’” Al-ʿUqaylī then said: “This hadith is narrated through another route, with a sounder chain of transmission than this.”
I say: Suwār ibn Muṣʿab corroborated him, from Mujālid, with the same chain. Ibn ʿAsākir recorded it in Tārīkh Dimashq (11/237/2). Mujālid is Ibn Saʿīd, and he is not strong.
8 — As for the hadith of Abū Rāshid, it is narrated by Abū ʿUthmān ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khālid ibn ʿUthmān, who said: My father, Khālid ibn ʿUthmān, narrated to me, from his father, ʿUthmān ibn Muḥammad, from his father, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from him.
