And ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUbayd Allāh is weak, as stated earlier. It seems that he confused the report: at times he narrated it as ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir ibn Rabīʿah, from his father, as in this version; and at other times as from him, from his father, from ʿUmar, as mentioned above in no. 4. The additional wording cited is authentic, corroborated by the previously mentioned hadith of Ibn Masʿūd, as well as the hadith of Abū Hurayrah in the two authentic collections and elsewhere.
1201 — “When one of you puts his feet into his leather socks while they are in a state of purity, he should wipe over them for three days if travelling, and for one day and one night if resident.”
Ibn Abī Shaybah narrated it in al-Muṣannaf (1/123): Wakīʿ narrated from Jarīr, from Ayyūb, from Abū Zurʿah ibn ʿAmr ibn Jarīr, who said: “I saw Jarīr wipe over his leather socks.” He said: Abū Zurʿah also reported that Abū Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said this.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission; all its narrators are reliable and are among the narrators cited by al-Bukhārī and Muslim. It is further corroborated by the hadith of Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl al-Murādī, who said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dispatched us on an expedition and said: ‘If he is travelling, each of you should wipe over his leather socks, provided he put them on while in a state of purity, for three days and their nights; and a resident should wipe for one day and one night.’” Al-Bayhaqī recorded it (2/282) with an authentic chain of transmission.
1202 — “If one of you desires his wife, let him go to her, even if she is at the baking oven.”
Al-Tirmidhī (1/217), Ibn Ḥibbān (1295), Aḥmad (4/22–23), and al-Bayhaqī (7/292) narrated it from Qays ibn Ṭalq, from his father, who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said this. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A good, singular hadith.”
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic. In al-Jāmiʿ, al-Suyūṭī attributed the hadith only to Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī! Al-Manāwī then said:
