Al-Bukhārī (9/458) and al-Dārimī (2/100) also recorded it from Wahb ibn Kaysān, from ʿUmar ibn Abī Salamah, in abbreviated form: “Say Allah’s name and eat what is nearest to you.”
- “Perform Hajj and ʿUmrah regularly, for they remove poverty and sins just as the bellows remove the dross of iron.”
Al-Ṭabarānī related it in al-Awsaṭ (1/111/2) through Ḥamzah al-Zayyāt, from ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān, from Yūsuf ibn Mihrān, from Ibn ʿAbbās, as a report attributed to the Prophet. He said: “No one narrated it from ʿAlī except Ḥamzah.”
I say: He is truthful, though he sometimes erred, and Muslim relied upon him; but Ibn Judʿān is weak. Al-Haythamī said (3/278): “There is criticism concerning him.”
I say: Yet it is strengthened by another route in Ibn ʿAdī’s al-Kāmil (folio 191/2), through Shuʿayb ibn Ṣafwān, from al-Rabīʿ ibn Rukayn, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Ibn ʿAbbās, with the same wording. He said: “Most of what Shuʿayb narrates is not corroborated.”
I say: Aḥmad said of him: “There is no objection to him, and his hadith is sound.” Abū Ḥātim said: “His hadith may be recorded, but it is not used as proof.” Ibn Ḥibbān included him in al-Thiqāt and said: “He would sometimes make mistakes.”
I say: Thus, his hadith is good provided that he does not contradict others; and when it is corroborated, his hadith is authentic—as it is here. Moreover, the hadith of Jābir, attributed to the Prophet with the same wording, supports it. Al-Ṭabarānī also related it in al-Awsaṭ through Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, from him, with the same wording.
