Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

As for the additional wording, it has also come through another route from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm with a similar meaning; its exact wording will follow. Al-Bayhaqi remarked after citing it: “This report is further corroborated by narrations from ʿAli, ʿImran ibn Husayn, ʿAbd Allah ibn Busr, Sahl ibn Saʿd, Anas ibn Malik, and ʿAʾishah—may Allah be pleased with them all—from the Prophet ﷺ.”

91 – “There will certainly arise in my community people who declare adultery, silk (for men), wine, and musical instruments to be lawful. Some groups will camp beside a mountain pass; a herdsman will come to them in the evening with his flock seeking something from them, but they will say, ‘Come back to us tomorrow.’ Allah will destroy them during the night, bringing the mountain down upon them, and He will turn others among them into apes and swine until the Day of Resurrection.”

Al-Bukhari recorded this in his Ṣaḥīḥ in a suspended form, saying (4/30): “Chapter: Concerning those who legalise wine and call it by some other name.” He then said: “Hisham ibn ʿAmmar related to us; Ṣadaqah ibn Khalid narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir narrated to us; ʿAṭiyyah ibn Qays al-Kilabi told me; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm al-Ashʿari said: Abu ʿAmir—or Abu Malik—al-Ashʿari (and, by Allah, he did not lie to me) heard the Prophet ﷺ say …” and he mentioned the ḥadith in full.

Al-Ṭabarani (1/167/1), al-Bayhaqi (10/221), Ibn ʿAsakir (19/79/2), and others transmitted it with continuous chains through Hisham ibn ʿAmmar.

There is a second chain through ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yazid. Abu Dawud (4039) said:

“ʿAbd al-Wahhab ibn Najdah narrated to us; Bishr ibn Bakr narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir …” and he gave the same report.

Ibn ʿAsakir likewise cited it through another route from Bishr.

I say: This isnad is authentic and provides strong corroboration for the transmission of Hisham ibn ʿAmmar and Ṣadaqah ibn Khalid. Ibn Ḥazm, however, was unaware of it—whether in his al-Muḥalla or in his treatise permitting musical instruments—so he criticised al-Bukhari’s chain for being broken between him and Hisham and advanced other flimsy objections which
